Albany State Golden Rams announce 2008 football schedule

Albany State University Athletics has announced the 2008 Golden Rams football schedule.

ASU’s 10-game slate, which includes five home games at the Albany Municipal Coliseum, promises another season of exciting Golden Rams football action, said Athletics Director Dr. Joshua W. Murfree Jr..

“Year after year, our Golden Rams fans look forward to receiving the news of the football schedule. Our fans don’t want to miss a minute of the Golden Rams in action. We have added a new team to the schedule, along with our conference teams, to add to the excitement,” Murfree said. “Our coaching staff does a great job of preparing our athletes for success, both on and off the playing field.”

The Golden Rams kick off the 2008 season on Aug. 30 against the Shaw University Bears. Former Albany State assistant football coach, Darrell Asberry led the Bears to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) championship in 2007. Week two of ASU football action continues as the Golden Rams host the Lane College Dragons of Jackson, Tenn. on Sept. 6. Both games will kick off at 7 p.m. The Golden Rams will hit the road on Sept. 13 to play the Kentucky State University Thorobreds in Frankfort, KY. After an open week on Sept. 20, the Golden Rams will travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on the Benedict College Tigers on Sept. 27.

The Golden Rams will return home to play the Stillman College Tigers on Oct. 4, and Albany State will celebrate Homecoming ’08 against the Clark Atlanta University Panthers on Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.

The Rams will hit the road for two back-to-back games against the SIAC champions, Tuskegee University Golden Tigers, on Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. in Tuskegee, Ala., and the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers on Oct. 25 in Atlanta, Ga. at 2 p.m.

The 19th Annual Fountain City Classic, which pits the Golden Rams against the Fort Valley State University Wildcats, is slated for Nov. 1 Kickoff for the classic is 2 p.m. at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium.

The Golden Rams will return home for the regular season finale against the Miles College Bears on Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
