Cheyney releases 2008 Football Schedule

Homecoming and the Wade Wilson Classic highlight an 11-game schedule. The Wolves will play six contests in O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium. Cheyney starts the season on August 30 with the Wade Wilson Classic as the Bulldogs of Bowie State come to campus. The Wade Wilson Classic is a fundraiser for athletic scholarships.

The Wolves try to host a contest against another Historical Black College or University (HBCU). Cheyney will then host the three newcomers to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with Mercyhurst, Gannon and C.W. Post invading campus on the first three Saturdays in September. All four games kick-off at 1:00 p.m.

Cheyney will hit the road for the first time during the 2008 campaign on September 27. A 6:00 p.m. start at East Stroudsburg will be the only night game on the slate this year. The following week, the Wolves return home to face Kutztown at 1:00 p.m. in O’Shields Stevenson Stadium. An October 11 contest at Millersville proceeds homecoming and senior day on October 18 as the Huskies of Bloomsburg come to town. Cheyney will end the season with three road games. On October 25 the Wolves will take on cross-town rival West Chester. Cheyney will then travel to Shippensburg and Clarion to end the season.

“With six home games and four to start the season is just what we need to begin the building process,” commented interim coach Barry Casterlin. The University is in the midst of search process to find a new head coach. Spring practice is set to begin April 7.

With the addition of Mercyhurst, Gannon and C.W. Post the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference will have a new look. Mercyhurst and Gannon will be members of the Western Division while Shippensburg will move from the West to the East and newcomer C. W. Post will join the Eastern half of the table.
