East Stroundsburg 42, Cheyney 6

Cheyney, PA….East Stroudsburg (2-4:1-1) defeated Cheyney (1-6:0-1) 42-6 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference football action. The Warriors used a school record setting ground attack by Joe Partridge to control the game. Partridge rushed for 284 yards on 34 carries including touchdown rushes of 3, 2, 34 and 2 yards. The Wolves were led by Billy Mitchell. Mitchell rushed for 102 yards on 21 carries. It was the first time all season that a Cheyney running back eclipsed the century mark.
The Wolves won the toss and elected to receive on a fourth and four from their own 43 a fake punt was thwarted by Warriors as Mitchell’s pass was broken up Mark Kalo. The Warriors first nine plays from scrimmage were hand offs to Partridge who amassed 212 in the first half alone.
On their second drive the Warriors were forced to kick a field goal that went wide. However on their third drive Partridge capped a seven play 48 yard drive in 2:39 with a 2 yard plunge to make the score 14-0. On the Warriors first drive of the second quarter, Partridge once again broke invaded the Cheyney secondary on a 34 yard scamper, his longest of the day to make the score 21-0.
On the Wolves ensuing drive they went 46 yards in 11 plays capped off by a Derrick Murry quarterback sneak from the one to put the Wolves on the board. However, Partridge and the Warriors would answer once again on their next possession to make the score 28-6 at half time. ESU would score on the opening drive of the third quarter and add another touchdown on their first drive of the fourth quarter to make the score for the games final points.
Cheyney’s Tyree Cooper led all players with 10 tackles. Dave Lotier paced the Warrior defense with seven tackles and a pass break-up.
Next week the Wolves travel to Kutztown while the Warriors are at West Chester.
