Alabama A&M 48, Texas Southern 24

Alabama A&M found its offensive rhythm Saturday in a 48-24 Homecoming rout of Texas Southern at Louis Crews Stadium. The Bulldogs, whose potent offensive attack stalled out last week in a with only 147 total yards at Grambling, bounced back effectively and often compiling 514 total yards and 33 first downs and scoring on four of their first five possessions. Ulysses Banks rushed for 112 yards and scored the game's first touchdown that put A&M in the lead for good at the 12:19 mark of the first quarter.

The Bulldog ground attack was impressive beyond Banks with 308 yards rushing on 46 attempts. AAMU quarterback Kelcy Luke threw for only 206 yards on 19-34 passing, but four of his completions went for touchdowns, including two to Thomas Harris. Harris caught six passes for 82 yards. Jeremy Licea capped the impressive showing with a career-long 42-yard field goal, his eighth straight made field goal attempt.

Texas Southern kept itself in the game riding the arm of quarterback Tino Edgecombe. Edgecombe threw for 352 yards and three scores on 29-59, but also threw three interceptions. Brian Haithe caught nine passes for 133 yards and a score for the Tigers.

The win improves Alabama A&M to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the SWAC. Texas Southern falls to 0-5 and 0-4 in the league.
