Delaware State names Conaway Assistant AD for Media Relations

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State University Athletics has announced the appointment of LeCounte C. Conaway as the institution’s new assistant athletics director for Media Relations.

“I am very excited that we have someone like Mr. Conaway coming on board in the area of sports information and marketing, and most specifically in media relations,” said Athletics Director Chuck Bell . “I am confident that his 28 years of experience in these areas will be instrumental to us as we continue to make DSU athletics one of the premier sports programs in the country.”

Mr. Conaway, a Portsmouth, Va. native and Shaw University graduate, has over 28 years of collegiate athletics public relations and marketing experience. Prior to joining the DSU family, he served as the assistant athletic director for Sports Information and Marketing at Shaw University from 2005-2006 and also held that same post there from 2001-2002. He served as the president of Full Impact Network, a media network enterprise that specializes in radio broadcasts and internet streaming for collegiate athletics, from 2003-2005.

Mr. Conaway first served as a sports information director at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (1977) and has held several sports information director posts at several other schools, including Virginia State University (1981-83), Norfolk State University (1987-88) and Hampton University (1988-2000).

He has also served as director of Public Relations for the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (1984-87) and director of Media Relations for the Mid-Eastern Athletics Conference (2002-03). In addition, he served as press chief for several NCAA regional and national tournaments, including the 1990 and 1991 Division II National Track & Field Championships.

He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, was a founding member of the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association. Most recently he served on the Executive Board of the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association.

Mr. Conaway is the father of two daughters, Adrienne and Brittney.
