Patricia Porter Named MEAC Media Relations Director
November 21, 2006
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner Dr. Dennis Thomas has announced the addition of Patricia Porter as the new Media Relations Director of the MEAC.
She succeeds Michelle Jinks, who resigned last month to pursue other opportunities.
Prior to joining the MEAC, Porter served as the Director of Communications for Southwest Basketball, LLC, an ownership group of four NBA Development League teams. While with Southwest Basketball, LLC, Porter’s duties included the overseeing and managing of the team’s media and communications in Albuquerque, N.M., Tulsa, OK, and Austin and Fort Worth Texas.
Porter joined the ownership group after working three years as the Public and Community Relations Manager for the National Basketball Development League’s (NBDL) Asheville Altitude.
An accomplished and well-respected media contact for five years in the first fully-affiliated minor league of the NBA, Porter is no stranger to the MEAC. Before joining the NBA D-League, she served as the Director of Sports Information for Hampton University for two years.
A 1998 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, Porter served as the Sports Information Director for the Golden Bulls for three years also serving as the Senior Woman Administrator.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Porter currently resides in Virginia Beach, Va., with her husband George.
