McGinty comes to Grambling State after a four-year
stint as assistant sports information director
at Prairie View A&M University. While at
Prairie View, he helped record in-game statistics
for the school’s 18 sports, assisted
in the production of athletic department publications,
coordinated interviews between the media, players
and coaches along with maintaining the athletic
department’s official Web site.
“Ryan McGinty will be a wonderful addition
to the Grambling State University Department
of Athletics staff,” said Mathieu. “He
is a tireless, thorough professional who will
go the extra mile to properly promote the university,
student-athletes and coaching staff. As I checked
out his background and preparations, everyone
had nothing but compliments to say about the
quality of Ryan’s work. Thus, I was elated
to secure his services because he is exactly
the type of person we were looking for to join
our team.”
“I’ve had a memorable experience
at Prairie View A&M the past four years
under the guidance of PVAMU Assistant Athletic
Director Stefann Robinson,” said McGinty. “I
look forward to applying the techniques he
has taught me as I move forward in my professional
career.”
McGinty worked for the National Football League
as a press runner during Super Bowl XXXVII
in 2004 after spending the fall of 2003 as
a member of the media relations gameday staff
for the NFL’s Houston Texans. He has
also served as the media coordinator for the
2006 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championship
along with assisting the Southwestern Athletic
Conference during its annual postseason championships.
An avid supporter of youth athletics in the
Houston area, McGinty has been apart of the
high school sports radio show Prep Talk for
five years and in 2003, hosted The Houston
SWAC Report, which promoted SWAC athletics
on a weekly basis. Prior to that, he served
as sports editor for The Angleton Times from
2001 to 2002 and general assignments reporter
for the Fort Bend Southwest Sun in 2001.
A native of Missouri City, Texas, McGinty
received both a bachelor’s degree in
communications in 2001 and a master’s
in counseling in 2004 from Prairie View A&M.
He also holds memberships in Phi Beta Sigma
Fraternity, Inc. and the Prairie View Interscholastic
League Coaches Association (PVIL).
“The opportunity to assume the reigns
of sports information director of a university
the caliber of Grambling State University is
an honor,” said McGinty. “Grambling
State University is internationally known for
its athletic accomplishments and I’m
excited to help continue the tradition individuals
such as Eddie Robinson, Collie J. Nicholson,
Fred Hobdy and former president Ralph Waldo
Emerson Jones have established.
