Carty has assisted on a part-time basis in the NSU sports information office for the last two years. She will continue to assist in the day-to-day operations of the sports information office, the publication of media guides, and the coordination of game day operations, with a focus on NSU’s women’s sports teams.
“Karen has done an excellent job the past two years in our office, and we are fortunate to have her join our staff full-time,” said NSU Sports Information Director Michael Michalec. “She has quickly familiarized herself with the workings of the NSU athletics department and the athletics public relations industry, and she will continue to be an asset to NSU.”
Goodwin comes to WSSU following a four-and-a-half year stint at South Carolina State University where he served in the same capacity.
During his tenure at South Carolina State University, Goodwin was the primary athletic media relations contact for soccer, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, and bowling. He also assisted with football, cross country, track & field, men’s basketball, and men’s golf. Goodwin also served as the primary designer for all SCSU media guides and publications.
“Adding Trevin to our very talented and hard-working athletic department family here at WSSU is another piece in the foundation that is being built for the transcendence of the Athletic Department to the NCAA Division I level,” said Chris Zona, WSSU WSSU Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations. “He will bring experience and a passion for his work that will continue to help as we work towards moving WSSU Athletics to the forefront regionally, nationally, and globally.”
Prior to joining the South Carolina State University staff, Goodwin spent one year as the assistant sports information director for Charleston Southern University where he carried out similar duties. He also spent one year as a desk editor at The Times and Democrat.
Carty graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in general business with an emphasis in marketing from NSU in 2004. She was a member of the women’s tennis team and was named to the 2004 MEAC Commissioner’s All-Academic team. She is also a lifetime member of Golden Key International Honour Society and Beta Gamma Sigma, an honor society for business majors.
The St. Croix, Virgin Islands native is currently pursuing her master’s degree in sports management through the distance-learning program at the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala.
Goodwin is a 1997 graduate of Charleston Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education.
