"I'm considering their offer," said Massie. "My family and I are contemplating what is best for us and for Edward Waters College."
Massie had been head coach for six years taking the Tiger program from a 2-8 record in 2001 to 8-3 in 2004. The temporary loss of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation in the spring of 2005 decimated the squad just before the beginning of the season. Despite the loss of players, Massie was able to rebuild the squad and EWC finished 3-7 in 2005.
The Tigers went 1-9 in 2006.
"We appreciate the opportunity that Edward Waters College gave me with my first head coaching job," said Massey in a phone interview. "We're happy to have impacted the lives of so many young men in our six years on campus. The dismissal came as a total surprise but we feel comfortable with what we've done under the circumstances and look forward to moving on with our lives."
