The contest will match the past two CIAA gridiron
champions in a key early season
match-up with a kickoff set for 4:00pm in the
venue that will host the 2006 CIAA Football
Championship Game..
NCCU and Shaw are connected in several ways
including head coaches who were on the same
staff last year. Shaw head coach Darrell Asberry
was offensive coordinator and assistant head
coach for NCCU last season before taking leadership
of the Bear's program just over a month ago.
He brought three assistant coaches with him
from NCCU, leaving Rod Broadway needing to
find new coaches in a short period of time.
Broadway is known for his defensive priorities
while Asberry is considered an offensive wizard.
The 2006 Labor Day Classic weekend of events
will begin on Saturday, Sept. 2 with the Maroon
Ball taking place in the Durham Marriot at
the Civic Center at 7 p.m. Members of different
Greek organizations will participate in the
Labor Day Classic Step Show starting at 8 p.m.
on Saturday in McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium
on the campus of NCCU. Following the Step Show,
the official Classic After Party will be held
in the LeRoy T. Walker Complex, beginning at
11 p.m.
