Delaware State hires new Associate
AD for Marketing and Development

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State University
has hired J. Michael Wilson, a former marketing
and public relations director with the U.S.
Olympic Committee, to be it new associate athletics
director of marketing and development.

In his new capacity, Mr. Wilson will spearhead
the marketing and development efforts for DSU
athletics programs and oversee the university’s
sports media relations. Mr. Wilson began his
new post with DSU on Aug. 21.
Mr. Wilson brings a wealth of experience from
his 1994-2006 tenure with the U.S. Olympic
Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo., in which
he held director posts in Marketing, Media
and Public Relations, Community and Alumni
Relations, as well as the Olympic Visitor Center.
Prior to his Olympic Committee years, Mr.
Wilson also served as a sports information/marketing
director at North Carolina Central University
(1991-93), an assistant sports information
director at Southern Methodist University (1989-91),
sports information director at the University
of Maryland-Eastern Shore (1988-89), and assistant
sports information director/head facilities
director at Florida A&M University.
Chuck Bell, DSU athletics director, said Mr.
Wilson is a great addition to the Department
of Athletics. “I am very excited that
we are bringing an expert in marketing, development,
and media relations from the U.S. Olympic Committee,” Mr.
Bell said. “I am confident that his experience
will be instrumental in the continued expansion
of DSU’s sports programs’ fans
and supporters base.
For Mr. Wilson, it is a welcome return to
the Mid-Atlantic region where he previously
attended school and worked. “I am extremely
happy and proud to be a part of the DSU team,” Mr.
Wilson said. “I know that there is an
opportunity to do great things and I am definitely
up for this new challenge.”
Mr. Wilson has a Bachelor of Arts in Business
Administration/Marketing and Mass Communications
(dual degree).
