Delaware State 29, Morgan State 7

Baltimore, MD – In front of 13,557 Morgan State homecoming fans, it was all Delaware State as the Hornets won their third straight game, 29-7, to improve to 5-2 and 4-1 in the MEAC. Morgan State fell to 4-4 and 3-2 in the MEAC.
The opening kickoff set the tone for the game when Vashon Winton (6’2, 195, r-SO-QB/Chicago, IL) connected with Shaheer McBride (6’3, 200, JR/Chester, PA) from three yards out completing a10 play 80 yard drive for the score. DSU kept the Bears out of the end zone in the first half, holding them to 77 yards in the air and 57 yards on the ground. DSU led at the half 17-0.
With 8:12 left in the half, Josh Brite (5’10, 185, JR-PK/Bakersfield, CA) kicked his first of two big field goals from 48 yards out. He put a 49 yard attempt through the uprights in the 4th, which was his career long. Brite is 4 for 4 on the year, with all of his attempts coming from 40 yards out. Handling all kicking assignments, Brite also managed to average 40.7 yards, on six punts, with three downed inside the 20 yard line.
For the game, Emmanuel Marc (5’10, 205, SR-RB/Spring Valley, NC) led all rushers with 57 yards (his season low); Winton completed 12 of 20 passes for 156 yards and one touchdown. Winton’s biggest target was McBride who finished with eight receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown.
Special teams were huge for the Hornets with two blocked punts setting up nine points. Akeem Green (5’9, 170, JR-DB/Philadelphia, PA) blocked the first punt and Tyrone Kelly (6’0, 190, r-SR-DB/Detroit, MI) picked it up and scored from 10 yards out with 4:54 left in the first half. The second one led to a safety with 9:30 left in the third when Lamont Kennard (6’0, 190, JR-DB/Chester, PA) broke through for the block.
Defensive standouts for the Hornets were Kofi Amoah (5’10, 180, SR-DB/Washington, DC), who led all tacklers with eight solos and one assisted for 9, Kelly Rouse (6’3, 240, JR-LB/Newark, NJ) was big with four solos, two assisted, one fumble recovery and one sack, while Omonigho Imeokparia (6’0, 220, r-SR-LB/St. Petersburg, FL finished with three solos, four assisted and three pass breakups.
DSU will return to action next week (Saturday, October 28) when they host conference rival, the Bulldogs of S.C. State at 7:00 pm
