GARNER, NC -- Virginia Union University's Lamar Little ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns as VUU downed host Shaw University 43-34 on Saturday in Garner, N.C.
Little also passed for 142 yards and one touchdown. Little, a sophomore from Biscoe, N.C., now has 17 touchdown passes on the year.
Freshman Jonathan Johnson was a pain in the side of Shaw all day long. The freshman defensive back intercepted three passes and returned one pick for a touchdown.
Punter Chad Talley had an outstanding day, booming five punts for an average of 43.0 yards per kick and putting one punt inside the 20-yard line.
The win also raised VUU's record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the CIAA. The five wins are the most for a Panther program since 2003. Shaw dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in CIAA play.
VUU now prepares for the Gold Bowl, to be held October 21 in Hovey Field against Virginia State University.
