Petersburg, VA – September 30, 2006 - There was
no homecoming victory celebration at Virginia State.
Fayetteville State University snapped a three game losing
steak as they rolled past the Trojans of Virginia State
University, 30-3.
The Broncos took the opening drive 73 yards on 10 plays
to jump to an early 7-0 lead on a touchdown reception
by Amir Holding. The Trojans answered back with a 20
yard field goal by Justin Buxton at 5:53. A field goal
by the Broncos’ Eric Lamoureux increased the lead
to 10-3 at the half.
After a VSU fumble at the beginning of the third quarter,
it took the Broncos two plays and 7 yards on their next
scoring drive as Amir Holding entered pay dirt for his
second touchdown of the evening. The PAT kick by Lamoureux
was good giving FSU a 17-3 lead.
In the the 4th quarter, 25 and 28 yard field goals by
Lamoureux made the score 23-3. With 2:48 in the 4th,
the Broncos put the icing on the win with a 94 yard interception
return by Adrian Horton for a touchdown. The interception
return was the longest in the Broncos history for a score.
Three incompleted passes by Lamar Blizzard ended the
Trojans drive and the Broncos ran out the clock to secure
the win.
Ryan Horton, starting his first game completed 15 of
27 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Christopher
Spade, another Bronco getting his first start had 101
yards on 22 carries.
