LAWRENCEVILLE, VA – The SPC Tigers
dropped their home season opener to the Pioneers of Tusculum
College 28-0, on Saturday night on the campus of Saint
Paul’s College.
Tusculum jumped on top of the Tigers early, establishing
a half-time lead of 21-0.
SPC’s passing game was the best showing of the
season netting 252 yards in the contest. Quarterback
Demetrius Brown threw for a career-high 218 yards. Michael
Thornton led all SPC receivers, collecting 99 receiving
yards. Pre-season All-CIAA selection Lonie Sanders
added 7 receptions for 90 yards in the contest.
Defensively, the Tigers displayed a balanced attack
with 17 players recording tackles in the contest.
Jamichael Caldwell led Tusculum College with 135 receiving
yards and 1 touchdown. The win lifts Tusculum to 2-1
this season.
Next week, the Tigers (1-2) will travel to Fayetteville,
NC to take on the Broncos of Fayetteville State University. The
CIAA cross-divisional contest is scheduled to kick-off
at 6:00 on the campus of FSU.
