Virginia Union 27, West Virginia Wesleyan 10

September 9, 2006

Virginia Union University's Lamar Little hit sophomore Michael Hampton with a pass from VUU's own one-yard line, and Hampton raced 99 yards for a touchdown as the Panthers downed West Virginia Wesleyan College 27-10 on Saturday in Buckhannon, W.Va.

VUU broke on top in the game with a 32-yard field goal by Hugo Flores-Diaz. Flores-Diaz would be perfect on the day, hitting three extra-points and then tying the VUU school-record with a 48-yard field goal in the second half.

The 99-yard scoring strike by Little to Hampton tied the CIAA record and set a VUU record for the longest scoring play from scrimmage.

Little also scampered for two touchdowns while connecting on eight of 20 passes for 225 yards through the air.

Freshman linebacker Stephen Johnson led VUU with 10 tackles, including three sacks. Freshman Brandon Smith, who was leading the nation in tackles, had seven tackles on the day.

VUU evened it's record at 1-1 while West Virginia Wesleyan fell to 1-1 on the season.

VUU now faces Livingstone College on September 16 in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
