Elizabeth City State 26, Livingstone 0

Salisbury, NC – The Blue Bears of Livingstone College hosted the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University in Alumni Memorial Stadium tonight. The game marked the home opener for the Blue Bears and Community Appreciation Night for the fans. 3,700 spectators enjoyed a pre-game gospel show which included the Livingstone Gospel Ensemble, Erwin Temple C.M.E. Church Praise Dance Team, and the Dorsett Chapel Young Adult Praise Team. Kids were able to enjoy clowns, cotton candy, and a bouncing house throughout the game. Unfortunately for Blue Bear fans, they watched their team surmise 26-0 to the Vikings.

Livingstone controlled the ball for almost eight and a half minutes in the first quarter but fell behind seven points as time expired in the first quarter. Marvin Jackson hauled in a 42-yard pass from Curtis Rich. Kevin Dodson kicked the extra point attempt through the uprights. The play topped 1:11 in four plays and 45 yards

After a Livingstone fumble with 8:30 remaining in the second quarter, Elizabeth City State drove eight plays and 40 yards in the end-zone. Chris Carter capped the eight play 40-yard drive with a 12-yard rush and a good kick by Dodson. Later in the quarter before the halftime band performances, Carter pulled in a 25-yard pass from Rich which pushed the score to 21-0. The score took all of five plays and 45 yards.

The second half of the game continued to belong to Elizabeth City State. Kevin Dodson kicked a 20-yard field goal at 8:05 of the third quarter for a 24-0 lead. On the drive following the field goal, the Vikings held the Blue Bears to the 13-yard line and Shawn Dickerson blocked a Sean Vary punt backwards into the end-zone for a safety.

Livingstone’s longest drive happened early in the fourth quarter. The Blue Bears drove 12 plays for 82 yards in 5:15 to the ECSU 13-yard line.

Elizabeth City State ran 63 plays and totaled 363 (116 rushing, 247 passing) yards compared to 50 plays and 126 (1 rushing, 125 passing) yards by Livingstone. The Vikings maintained possession for 30:18.

Tyrome Baisden led the Blue Bears with five kickoff returns for 122 yards. He also had six rushes for a net 20 yards. Lionel Vincent led the defense with nine tackles and three for a loss of four yards. He forced one fumble and recovered one also.

The Blue Bears will host the Indians of Catawba College on Saturday, September 9. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm. Elizabeth City State will host Charleston West Virginia at 3 pm.
