Prairie View A&M 13, Alabama A&M 7

November 18, 2006

Alabama A&M suffered an offensive hangover after last week's championship berth clinching victory over Alcorn State. The Bulldogs were flat offensively all afternoon Saturday and fell to the SWAC's bottom team, Prairie View A&M, 13-7 before a Senior Day crowd at Louis Crews Stadium.

The Panthers' defense dominated the game, limiting AAMU to just one first down in the first half and 169 total yards for the game. The Bulldogs' attempt to score a winning touchdown ended on the PVAM 15-yard-line as time expired.

The loss overshadowed an excellent performance by the Bulldog defensive unit led by senior Johnny Baldwin. Baldwin finished with 13 tackles (7 solo) and an interception. The Bulldogs forced three Prairie View turnovers, but could not convert any into points.

Prairie View's defense was led by Chandre' Ward's 10 tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. It was his second forced fumble which led to the game-winning score as teammate Val Ford picked up the loose ball and scampered 20 yards to give the Panthers a 13-7 lead with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter. The score would stand up.

PVAM's Kerry Wilson opened the scoring with 2:54 left in the first half, scoring on a two-yard plunge on fourth down.

Alabama A&M took the opening kick of the second half and drove to tie the score with Kelcy Luke finding Kevin Francis for a 12-yard touchdown pass with 10:58 remaining in the third. Francis was the lone offensive highlight for the Bulldogs finishing with six catches for 60 yards and a score.

Chris Gibson and Arnell Fontenot ran for 51 and 50 yards, respectively for the Panthers.
