Eastern Kentucky 20, Tennessee State 3

The TSU Tigers, playing an early 12:00 game, got off to a sluggish start and never got on track, dropping a 20-3 decision to the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky.

In the first quarter, the Tennessee State offense managed a meager 28 yards on 8 plays, while allowing EKU to gain 133 yards on eighteen (18) plays. In the second quarter, the Tigers fared just slightly better running 27 plays for 101 yards. Eastern Kentucky gained 210 yards on34 plays. Time of possession weighed heavily in EKU’s favor 18:25 to 11:35 for the Tigers.

Quarterback Antonio Heffner, after a two game lay-off, completed just 14 of 34 passes for 162 yards, and was intercepted four times. Running back Javarris Williams gained 72 yards on 17 carries.

End of game numbers show Eastern Kentucky generating 391 yds of Total Offense (123 rush, 268 pass) and Tennessee State generating 257 yds of Total Offense (95 rush, 162 pass). Each team was penalized eleven (11) times, TSU for 64 yds and EKU for 114 yds.

The Tigers finish the 2006 season with a respectable 6-5 (5-2 OVC) record, after a 2-9 (1-7 OVC) campaign in 2005.
