Hampton volleyball geared up for first
ever televised match
October 10, 2005
Hampton, Va. – The Hampton University women’s
volleyball team will play in its first ever nationally televised
match this Friday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. against North Carolina
A&T as part of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC)
Round-up.
The MEAC signed a seven-year deal with ESPNU in February
for coverage of multiple sports, including volleyball, and
as part of the agreement the network will broadcast three
games live from the William P. Hytche Center on the campus
of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
“It’s very exciting to say that you’re going
to be on national television,” said Lady Pirates coach
Tiny Laster. “Our roster consists of kids from every
part of the country and now they have the chance to be seen
in California, the Midwest, and here on the east coast. This
should also help us in the area of recruiting.” This
will be the second time this season that Hampton (12-10) will
face North Carolina A&T (8-11) and the Lady Pirates are
looking to rebound after the 3-1 loss back on Sept. 6.
“North Carolina A&T is one of the hottest teams
in the conference right now,” added Laster. “We
played them earlier in the season and have struggled since,
but this match is very important because it will tell us if
we are in fact serious contenders.
