“Today, coach George Small and his staff were dismissed
after careful review and consideration of the direction of
our football program”, said Todd in a news release announcing
the action. “We feel that it is in the best interest
of our football program to make this change. This allows the
University to begin the process of finding Coach Small’s
successor.”
In three years at A&T, Small had a record of 16-19. Ten
of those victories came in his first season where he led the
Aggies to a 10-3 mark and the school’s sixth MEAC championship.
His next two years produced identical 3-8 records, including
disappointing losses to N.C. Central, Howard and South Carolina
State this season.
A&T has announced the obligatory national search to “seek
someone with extensive experience in the Division I-A ranks”.
