FAMU names Marlynn Jones as Associate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M University
has annnounced the appointment of Marlynn Jones as Associate
Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

Her appointment is effective November 30, 2005.
Ms. Jones comes to Florida A&M from the University of
South Carolina, where she had served as Assistant Athletic
Director for Compliance since October of 2002.
At USC , Ms. Jones reported to the University President on
NCAA matters; was a member of the Athletic Director’s
Senior Staff and Faculty Athletics Advisory Committee.
She also oversaw all aspects of departmental compliance with
NCAA and Southeastern Conference regulations, including initial
eligibility, rules education programs, providing interpretation
of NCAA and SEC legislation, as well as assisting in game day
facility operations for football and basketball.
Prior to her stint at South Carolina, Ms. Jones served as
Assistant Commissioner of Compliance and External Affairs for
the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference from August 2001 to October
2002.
Ms. Jones was the Venue Press Operations Coordinator for the
1996 Atlanta Olympic Games from January 1995 to November 1996.
She served as Advertising Manager for the NCAA News, from
December 1987 to April 1991, before moving to North Carolina
A&T as Assistant Athletic Director for Development from
April 1991 to February 1993.
Ms. Jones is a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina
in Journalism. She holds a 1987 Master of Mass Communication,
with a concentration in Business Administration from Virginia
Commonwealth University.
In addition, Ms. Jones was the recipient of a Doctor of Jurisprudence
from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999. She also
attended the Sports Management Institute at the Universities
of Michigan and Texas in January 2004.
