Florida A&M taps Maicel Malone as women's
track coach

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida A&M has announced
the appointment of Maicel Malone as the university's
head women's track and field coach.

A graduate of Arizona State University, who also enjoyed a
supremely distinguished competitive track career, Malone comes
to FAMU after a lengthy stint as assistant women's track coach
at Florida State University.
Malone joined the FSU staff in 1999, becoming instrumental
in the success of the women's program in Atlantic Coast Conference
competition. She also assisted with men's 2002 and 2003 ACC
championship teams.
While at FSU, Malone also coached Olympian Kimberly Walker,
who earned a spot on the 400 meter relay team from Trinidad & Tobago.
Aside from her on-the-track coaching duties, Malone was instrumental
in Florida State's recruiting process, supporting the academic
staff in monitoring the team's progress in the classroom and
dispersing and ordering team equipment. In addition, she also
coordinated recruit, team travel and community service programs.
During the 2002 season, Malone helped coach the FSU women
to an impressive second place finish at the ACC outdoor championship.
Malone coached two individual ACC champions and a championship
4x100m relay team.
She also assisted with the men's 2002 ACC Championship team.
Malone had two individual NCAA qualifiers and assisted in the
development of sprinter Teresa Bundy.
In 2003, Malone brought in one of the best recruiting classes
in over a decade at Florida State, and played a major role
in developing that talent.
