Kentucky State releases 2006 Football
Schedule
May 9, 2006
Frankfort, KY - The 2006 Kentucky State
University Thorobred Football Season will bring a first-time
opponent to Frankfort and renew an in-state rivalry. For the
first time in many years the Thorobreds will have a bye-week
during the season to give them a chance to get some much needed
recovery time after nine (9) straight games to start the season.
KSU Athletic Director Derita Ratcliffe
and Head Football Coach Fred T. Farrier have put together a
fan friendly schedule for 2006. The schedule features five
(5) home games, a Classic in Lexington and another game in
the state of Kentucky. “We are very excited about our
schedule. It gives our fans and alumni a chance to really embrace
this team and take ownership by seeing our student-athletes
play seven times in the state of Kentucky,” said Coach
Farrier, on the seven games within Kentucky.
KSU opens the season with two non-conference games. The first
is against cross state rival, Kentucky Wesleyan College in
Owensboro (08/26 at 12 pm- CST). The Thorobreds return to Frankfort
for their home opener to host first time opponent, Ferris State
University (09/02 at 1 pm) in the second non-conference game
to start the season.
After those two non-conference games the Thorobreds open their
conference schedule by hosting the defending SIAC Champions,
Albany State University (09/09 at 6 pm) in Frankfort. The following
week Kentucky State travels to Atlanta to take on the Morehouse
College Tigers (09/16 at 7 pm) in another SIAC conference match-up.
The Thorobreds return to Kentucky to face Central State University
(09/23 at 5 pm) in the Toyota Heritage Football Classic in
Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington. This game will be played
on the campus of the University of Kentucky, a first for the
Thorobreds and the Heritage Classic contest.
The Thorobreds return to Frankfort to host two straight home
SIAC conference battles. The first is against Clark-Atlanta
University (09/30 at 1 pm). The second match-up is against
Lane College (10/07 at 1:30 pm) for Homecoming 2006. In the
first seven games, Morehouse is the only game played outside
of the state of Kentucky.
Kentucky State then hits the road with two important conference
games before their bye week. The first is against Benedict
College (10/14 at 2 pm) in Columbia, South Carolina, followed
by a trip to Miles College (10/21 at 11am) in Birmingham, Alabama.
After a week off, the Thorobreds travel to Stillman College
(11/04 at 1:30 pm) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for their conference
finale. Kentucky State returns home to host Fort Valley State
University (11/11 at 1pm) in a non-conference match-up and
the season finale.
“We will do our best to represent our University, alumni
and the city of Frankfort as we try to win an SIAC Conference
Championship. This schedule gives our fans a real chance to
follow and support us throughout the entire season,” said
Coach Farrier.
