Albany State eliminated from baseball

The
Albany State University Golden Rams baseball team was eliminated
from the NCAA South Baseball Regional Tournament after losing
to #5 Lynn University, 12-7, in the second round on Friday.
Lynn
got on the scoreboard early in the first inning with five
consecutive singles before George Brandner hit a grand slam
to give the Knights a 5-0 lead. Lynn tacked on a run in the
third inning and four in the fourth inning to take a 10-0
lead over Albany State. Lynn starter Andrew Majoros gave
up six earned runs in seven innings and struck out five Rams.
The
Golden Rams cut Lynn’s lead to 10-3 after scoring three
runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off Ender Castro’s
triple and Willie Watkins’ base hit. Stanley Bell started
for the Golden Rams and allowed seven earned runs in five
innings. He stuck out one Knight and walked nine.
Both
teams added a run in the sixth innings before the Golden
Rams added three more runs in the seventh inning. The Knights
added another run in the ninth inning to seal the 12-7 victory
over the Golden Rams.
The
Knights advance to the third round to play on Saturday at
3 p.m. against the loser of the Florida Gulf Coast-Catawba
game. FGCU and Catawba will play Friday at 7 p.m. The regional
tournament is Sunday at 1 p.m.
Winners
of the eight regional championships will advance to the double-elimination
championship finals on May 27-June 3 at Paterson Field in
Montgomery, Ala. The finals are hosted by Valdosta State
University and the city of Montgomery.
