Ron "Fang" Mitchell resigns as AD at Coppin State

BALTIMORE, Md. — Ron Mitchell has announced his resignation as Director of Athletics at Coppin State the university announced on Friday.

Mitchell will remain at the university as the men’s basketball head coach.

“I just felt this was the right time,” said Mitchell of his decision. “I still love coaching basketball and will continue to serve Coppin State in that capacity.”

Mitchell was named the Director of Athletics in 1996 replacing Dr. Clayton McNeill.

“Coach Mitchell has served for many years as the Director of Athletics at Coppin State,” said CSU President Dr. Stanley Battle. “Coach Mitchell’s many years of service have been appreciated and significant in helping Coppin State move our athletics and academic mission forward. I would like to personally thank him for his many years of service and for continuing to serve as head coach of the men’s basketball team.”

Assistant Athletic Director Alecia Shields-Gadson will handle the day-to-day activities of the athletic department until a replacement is named.
