SIAC announces 2006 Football Schedule

Tucker, GA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its 2006 Composite Football Schedule.  Highlighting the 2006 schedule is an unprecedented six nationally televised games (five regular season & the Pioneer Bowl), nine classic football games, and Pioneer Bowl IX returning to the Queen City.

Televised games for this season include Tuskegee vs. Stillman on opening weekend (Aug. 27, 3:00 pm CST), the Steel City Classic (Miles vs. Stillman, Sept. 24, 5:00 pm CST) and the Legacy Classic (Miles vs. Morehouse, Nov. 5, 6:30 pm CST) all airing on ESPNU.  The SIAC has also added a television package with CSTV for them to cover two Thursday night games on September 7 (Morehouse vs. Lane) and September 14 (Albany State vs. Stillman) with both games starting at 8:00 pm.  The added coverage will give the SIAC four consecutive weeks of televised football action. 

Highlighting the nine classics this season will be the annual Palmetto City Classic featuring Benedict College vs. Savannah State, the 6th Annual Steel City Classic, the 71st Annual Morehouse vs. Tuskegee Classic (Oldest Black College Football Rivalry) and ending the season with one of the biggest classics in HBCU sports, the 17th Annual Fountain City Classic featuring perennial SIAC powerhouses Albany State vs. Ft. Valley State.

The 2006 conference schedule will vary for each team as the conference will function on a seven (7) game conference schedule.  The SIAC schedule is composed of 63 games including three games vs. Division I-AA opponents; Stillman vs. Alabama A&M, Tuskegee vs. Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Tuskegee vs. Alabama State.  The 2006 SIAC season will culminate with the SIAC Champion participating in Pioneer Bowl IX vs. the CIAA champion in Charlotte, NC on December 2, 2006. 

The 2006 SIAC Football Luncheon is scheduled for July 26, in Atlanta, GA at the Atlanta Marriott NW.  The Luncheon is scheduled to being at 12:30 pm.
