SIAC announces 2005-06 All Conference Basketball Teams

Tucker, GA – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2005-06 SIAC All Conference and All Academic Basketball Teams and Superlatives.

Leading the way for this year’s awards is Shekiya Tarpkins, of Fort Valley State, who took home First Team All Conference honors, MVP of the Year, while leading her team to a Conference regular season title. Natasha Gray of Benedict took home All Conference First Team honors and All Academic honors. Fort Valley State’s head coach Lonnie Bartley took home the Coach of the Year honors. Bartley led his team to a 20-0 record in conference play sweeping the conference, propelled his team to a top 15 ranking in the NCAA polls and a 3rd place regional ranking. Bartley also secured his 15th consecutive and 16th overall 20 win season.

For the men Brian Harper of Paine College lead his team to a second place finish in the conference, First Team All Conference honors, and MVP of the Year. Joshua Obiajunwa (Benedict College), Ray Northern (Ft. Valley State), and Adrian Comer (Lane College), all took home All Conference honors and All Academic team honors. Benedict’s head coach Fred Watson led his team to a 1st place finish in the SIAC while taking home Coach of the Year honors as well.

All the SIAC teams will be in action March 1-5, 2006 at Fair Park Arena in Birmingham, AL. Tickets are still available. For more information on the tournament please visit www.siacbasketballtournament.com.
