Southern vs.
McNeese State Football Postponed
August 30, 2005
Southern University's football game versus McNeese State,
originally scheduled for this Saturday night in Lake Charles,
has been postponed due to the impact of Hurricane Katrina and
the need for the Southern campus to participate in the recovery
efforts.
“We felt it was a necessary move due to the unfortunate
tragedy that is occurring in New Orleans, and surrounding parishes,” said
Southern Chancellor and Interim President of the Southern System,
Dr. Edward Jackson. “We want to help and assist
in any way possible to help in the recovery effort for our
state. We have a campus in New Orleans, and all of our
thoughts and prayers are with them and their families, as well
as everyone in the State of Louisiana.”
"Although we realize the importance of athletics, this is
clearly not the time to play a football game. We want
our effort at the moment to be on the recovery of our residents
of this great state," added Jackson.
Chancellor Jackson also added that both schools would work
to try and find another date to try and re-play this game.
