victory in front of 2,286 fans.
Saint Augustine’s eluded Livingstone, on their
second drive of game, to score first with ten plays
and 79 yards. Darrell Nesbit threw a 17-yards touchdown
pass to Andre McGlone with 6:37 on the game clock in
the first quarter. Soon afterwards, Livingstone punted
on the following drive and Eddie Montgomery returned
it 80 yards back into the endzone with 5:48 remaining
in the first quarter.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Livingstone
received possession of the ball by a Falcon punt. After
four plays, the LC punt landed at the St. Augustine’s
40-yard line. Eddie Montgomery once again fielded the
punt and advanced it 60 yards to pay dirt. Sanchez
Gilbert blocked the extra point attempt and the Falcons
led till halftime with a 20-point lead.
After intermission, the Blue Bears awaken from the first
half shockers and began to play collegiate football.
On the second drive of the quarter, Livingstone advanced
84 yards down the field into the endzone for the Blue
Bears first score. Jason Mitchell completed the 37-yard
scoring pass to Tyrone Baisden with 8:01 on the clock.
The extra point pass attempt by Mitchell failed.
In the fourth quarter, Livingstone began its comeback
effort with 11:59 on the clock. The Blue Bears took
their first drive of the quarter on their own 2-yard
line. SAC Sintell Crew angled a 31-yard punt that rolled
out-of-bounds at the two. Jason Mitchell moved the
ball first with a 14-yard rush to the LC 16-yard line.
Rashad Flucker gained the next first down with a 12-yard
rush to the LC 37-yard line. Mitchell then rushed for
17 yards into St Aug.’s territory. Mitchell connected
with Michael Sullivan for 31 yards and then Jeremy
Grier for 15 yards. The connection with Grier ended
in the endzone with 7:40 on the clock. Mitchell converted
the two-point conversion by tossing it to Travis Gist.
Down 14-20, Livingstone forced a Falcon fumble on the
pursuing kickoff. Rikki Murriell recovered the fumble
for the Blue Bears on the St. Augustine’s 36-yard
line. Beginning the drive with 7:35 remaining in the
game, Mitchell connected with Gist once again for a
27-yard strike to the SAC 4-yard line. At third and
goal, Mitchell cornered the right end and dove for
the pylons. With an announcement of “TOUCHDOWN”,
the head referee disagreed and placed the ball on the
six-inch yard for fourth and goal. After a Livingstone
time-out with 2:43 remaining, quarterback Jason Mitchell
took the snap, with the back field empty and all receivers
spread out, and rushed for the left end to find St.
Aug's Kente Blount waiting for a one-yard loss.
The Falcons took the ball over on downs
and ran out the clock to preserve its winning streak.
Livingstone will face North Carolina Central next
Saturday in Durham, North Carolina for a 2:00 pm
kickoff.
