September 24, 2005
CHARLOTTE, NC – The Tigers of Saint
Paul’s College extended the losing
streak of CIAA cross-divisional opponent Johnson C. Smith
University to 18 games as they defeated the Golden Bulls
27-7. The win would improve Saint Paul’s record
to 2-3 overall and even them out in the CIAA at 1-1.
SPC would place their highest point total of the season
on the scoreboard.
The Tigers would reach the end zone only once offensively,
leaving the rest of the scoring responsibility to defense
and the special teams. Saint Paul’s lone offensive
touchdown would come from a 19-yard touchdown pass from
Walter Virgil to Lonie Sanders with 1:52 remaining in
the first quarter. Once again, Shaun Gutierrez would
post plenty of offense for the Tigers, converting 2 field
goals and 2 point-after attempts. Defensively, SPC was
lead by Malcolm Gordon who recorded 6 tackles in the
contest.
Saint Paul’s College will take on the Panthers
of Virginia Union University on Saturday, October 1 for
their homecoming. The game is scheduled to kick-off at
1:00 pm.
