Kentucky State 31, Morehouse 22

Atlanta, GA. – Kentucky State’s offense finally got on track as the Breds defeated, always dangerous, Morehouse 31-22 in SIAC action, at B.T. Harvey Stadium in Atlanta. The win raised KSU to 3-2, 2-1 SIAC and MHC dropped to 2-3, 1-3 SIAC.

KSU used a balance offensive attack gaining 469-yards total offense, 205 rushing and 265 passing on 79 plays. MHC gained 356 on 65 plays.

Cassius Chambers (RB) rushed for 108 yards on 13 attempts, 8.3 avg., and scored on a brilliant 47-yard run, (2:41/2nd/Qt.) to lead the Breds balanced offensive attack. Roni Robinson (RB) added another 99-yard on 24 attempts and scored 2-TD on runs of 1-yrd (8:55/2nd/Qt.) and 19-yards (4:02/2nd/Qt.)

Shawn Johnson (QB) recorded a season high 264-yards, completing 16-of-32 passes, and one interception. Johnson’s favorite targets were wide receivers, Jerome Bryant and Juwan Jones. Bryant had five catches for 116-yards, which included a 74-yard bomb
(8:12/1st/Qt.). Jones, had six catches for 82-yards

The first half was all KSU as the Thorobreds lead 31-9 at the intermission. However, the second half belonged to MHC as the Maroon Tigers scored twice to make the score KSU 31-22 with 13:46 remaining in the game.

In the first half, KSU, marched the ball down the field on its first possession 69-yards on 10 plays to the MHC-11 but had to settle for a 28-yard field goal by Stephen Harris (10:59/1st/Qt.) to take a 3-0 lead. Bryant, then scored on his 74-yard pass from Johnson. Harris’ kick made the score 10-0. MHC scored on a 35-yard field goal by Adam Williams (14:19/2nd/Qt.) to close the score KSU 10-3. Robinson, then scored from the one, KSU 17-3. MHC scored again when Raymond Johnson (WR) caught a 34-yard pass from (QB) Carlos King (7:16/2nd/Qt.). Williams kick was blocked, KSU-17-9. Robinson scored his second TD on a 19-yard run. Harris kick, KSU 24-9. Chambers scored on a 19-yard run. Harris kick, KSU 31-9

In the second half, MHC scored on a 1-yard run by (RB) Eddie Rowe (6:40/3rd/Qt.) and on a 20-yard pass from King to Johnson (13:46/4th/Qt.).

MHC leading rusher was Rowe with 106-yards on 18 attempts. King completed 10-of-28 passes for 128 yards and 2-TD’s. Johnson caught five passes for 70-yards and 2-TD’s. MHC defense was lead by Johnny Eubanks (DB) with eight solo tackles and William McKnight (LB) with seven solos.

Marcus Wright (DB), Terrell Henderson (LB) and Robert Brown (LB), lead the KSU defense that limited, John David Washington (RB), the SIAC leading rusher, to a net 52-yards rushing on just nine attempts. Washington carried a 140-yard per game average into the contest.

Wright, Henderson and Brown each recorded five solo tackles with Henderson adding three assists for a team high eight tackles. However, Wright, collected 3-interception for 39-yards and registered 5 key pass breakups. Leonard Banks (LB) added 4-solo and two assists and Brandon Fairley (DB) had four solo tackles. Jason Sneed (DL) put continuous pressure on MHC quarterback, Carlos King, with three (QB) hurries. Sneed also recorded three solo tackles and one fumble recovery.

KSU will travel to Lane College this week for a 6:00 pm (CST) kickoff.
