CHEYNEY, PA – Saint Paul’s College alumni
and fans turned out in great numbers as the Tigers fell
victim to Cheyney University, 13-10, in the 24th Annual
Wade Wilson Classic. After being held to a scoreless
first half, the Tigers rallied to tie the contest at
10 in fourth quarter action. A remarkable effort was
made by the Tigers, who would ultimately have their fate
sealed by a 37-yard field goal by Cheyney’s John
Riley with 3 seconds left in the contest.
The Tigers only touchdown was scored on an 11-yard
pass from Walter Virgil to Larry Graham with 14:55
remaining in the game. The Tigers would put points
on the board one more time with a 31-yard field goal
from Shaun Gutierrez with 3:12 left on the game clock.
Offensively, this was the best showing for Virgil as
the SPC quarterback as he racked in 221 passing yards.
Leading the way defensively for the Tigers would be
Greg Green and Michael Wagstaff. The defensive duo
would account for 16.5 tackles on the afternoon.
Saturday, the Tigers will travel to Martinsville, VA
to take on Fayetteville State University in the Clyde
Williams Classic. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM at
Martinsville High School.
