September 10, 2005

CHEYNEY, PA – Saint Paul’s College alumni and fans turned out in great numbers as the Tigers fell victim to Cheyney University, 13-10, in the 24th Annual Wade Wilson Classic. After being held to a scoreless first half, the Tigers rallied to tie the contest at 10 in fourth quarter action. A remarkable effort was made by the Tigers, who would ultimately have their fate sealed by a 37-yard field goal by Cheyney’s John Riley with 3 seconds left in the contest.

The Tigers only touchdown was scored on an 11-yard pass from Walter Virgil to Larry Graham with 14:55 remaining in the game. The Tigers would put points on the board one more time with a 31-yard field goal from Shaun Gutierrez with 3:12 left on the game clock. Offensively, this was the best showing for Virgil as the SPC quarterback as he racked in 221 passing yards. Leading the way defensively for the Tigers would be Greg Green and Michael Wagstaff. The defensive duo would account for 16.5 tackles on the afternoon.
