FRANKFORT, Ky. | Phillip and Marcus Bryant
each caught a touchdown pass, and Carlos Valasques scored
on a 71-yard run as Stillman College defeated Kentucky
State 27-17 on Saturday.
Stillman improved to 4-4 overall, 3-4 in the SIAC. Kentucky
State fell to 6-4 overall, 5-3 in league play.
Marcus Bryant led the Tigers with 100 receiving yards
on four catches. He scored Stillman's first touchdown
on a 60-yard pass from Charles McCullum with 4:45 left
before halftime. Kevin Flemming kicked the first of Stillman's
three extra points.
Stillman took the lead for good on Phillip Bryant's
12-yard touchdown pass from McCullum with 1:55 left in
the third quarter.
McCullum completed 18 of 24 passes for 268 yards.
Valasques led the Tigers in rushing with 132 yards on
12 carries, finishing the day with an average of 11-yards
per carry. Valasques's touchdown with 1:36 left capped
a Stillman drive of 82 yards in seven plays.
Kentucky State started the scoring with a 20-yard field
goal by Stephen Harris with 8:06 left in the first quarter.
The Thorobreds went ahead 10-0 in the second quarter
as Nick Moore scored on a 37-yard run and Harris kicked
the extra point.
Stillman rallied with McCullum's touchdown passes, and
a tough 11-yard scoring run by Lonnie Collier which gave
the Tigers a 20-10 lead with 10:01 left to play.
Kentucky State drove 27 yards in four plays and got
a 15-yard touchdown run by Roni Robinson at the 4:38
mark. Harris added the extra point.
Stillman gained 148 yards rushing, with the Thorobreds
gaining 147. Cassius Chambers led the Thorobreds with
51 rushing yards on 14 carries. Robinson gained 49 yards
on seven carries.
Kentucky State's Caleb Midura completed 13 of 31 passes
for 142 yards with an interception. Shawn Johnson completed
3 of 6 passes for 42 yards.
Larry Albert led the Stillman defense with 12 tackles
and Harvey Logan recorded eight tackles. Albert and Alex
Dumeus teamed up for a sack. Robert Brown led Kentucky
State with 10 tackles and Ray Huff followed with nine
tackles.
Stillman next plays at Clark Atlanta on Saturday, Nov.
5. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CST/1:30 EST.
