Fayetteville State 52, Livingstone 22

Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College hosted the Broncos of Fayetteville State University during its annual Homecoming celebration. Numerous alumni and friends celebrated the reunions and activities surrounding the game. The Blue Bears (1-9, 1-6 CIAA) could not deliver to its fans an upset victory over Fayetteville State (6-4, 4-3 CIAA) with a 52-22 loss.

Two years ago when Livingstone hosted FSU during homecoming, the Blue Bears pulled a 28-27 upset to the latter CIAA Football Champions. Livingstone scored 21 points in the fourth quarter for the victory. Last season in Fayetteville, NC, the Broncos devastated LC 62-19.

Fayetteville State quickly converted its first four plays into seven points during its opening drive. Jonathan Autry threw a 34-yard pass to Veon McHam for the score. The drive went 65 yards in 1:12.

Livingstone answered the score with a touchdown of its own in the following drive. Freshman Rashad Flucker scampered 37 yards into the endzone. With the six drive plays, the Blue Bears advanced the ball 87 yards in 2:50.

The Broncos took over the game when they scored points on its next three possessions. Robert Munoz nailed a 47-yard field goal at the 5:30 first quarter mark. Livingstone fumbled the ball on its 18-yard line with the first possession after kickoff. Antonio Girton recovered the ball to set Fayetteville State up for its next score. Autry threw the ball on the next play for 18 yards into the endzone to Dentyl Jackson. After a Livingstone drive that ended with a punt, Elliot London caught an 85-yard touchdown pass from Autry with 1:13 left in the first quarter. LC trailed at the end of the first quarter 24-6.

Livingstone hit the scoreboard in the second quarter with its second drive. Jason Mitchell ended a six-play drive with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Tyrome Baisden. Blue Bears used 2:33 of their possession time to move the ball 72 yards.

Once again, Fayetteville State answered the score with a score of their own. Jonathan Autry capped nine plays and 71 yards with a 12-yard pass to R.L. Carter. The Broncos stood confident at the half with a 31-14 lead.

After the extended halftime performances by the bands, Fayetteville State continued to add insult to injury by scoring two touchdowns with 5:22 and 3:31 on the game clock. Autry completed a 43-yard pass to Veon McHam and Nick Green rushed for 27 yards for the second score.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Fayetteville State marched 86 yards down the field in nine plays for a two-yard touchdown score by Amir Holding with 9:48 remaining in the game.

Livingstone scored its final points of the season with 5:26 on the clock. Jason Mitchell threw 24 yards to Jeremy Grier.

Rashad Flucker rushed for Livingstone’s first 100-yard game by finishing the day with 143 rushing yards. Tyrome Baisden finished the day with a season high 242 all-purpose yards. Jason Mitchell also had a season best of 266 passing yards.
