announces pre-season men's basketball predictions

GREENBORO, N.C. - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced its
pre-season men's basketball predictions and All-MEAC selections.
South Carolina State was chosen
by the leagues' Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors as the
favorites to win the 2004-05 MEAC title. The Bulldog's Thurman Zimmer
earned pre-season Player of the Year honors.
The Bulldogs, who received 14 of the 22 first place votes, were picked
over Hampton University for the top spot by 68 votes. The Bulldogs
finished in a tie for first place with Coppin State last year in the
final MEAC standings. S.C. State earned the top seed in the MEAC
Tournament by virtue of the tiebreaker.
The Eagles did not receive any first place votes and finished third,
followed by 2004 MEAC Tournament Champions Florida A&M. Delaware State
rounded out the top five.
Zimmer, the 2003-04 Player of the Year, was a unanimous selection for
the 2004-05 preseason All-MEAC first team. Zimmer finished third in
scoring in the MEAC last year, averaging 18.8 points per game and first
in rebounds with 8.4 rebounds per game.
Joining Zimmer on the pre-season All-MEAC first team is front court mate
and 2003-04 Rookie of the Year, Brian Mason (6-3, 190, So. Forward),
along with : Chakowby Hicks (6-3, 185, Sr. Guard) of Norfolk State,
Hampton's Devin Green (6-7, 205, Sr., Guard), and Delaware State's
Terrance Hunter (6-7, 225, Sr., Forward).
The 2004-05 NCAA basketball season officially opens on Saturday, October
16.
