October 7, 2004

GREENBORO, N.C. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference has announced its pre-season basketball predictions and All-MEAC selections. Delaware State was chosen by the leagues’ Head Coaches and Sports Information Directors as the favorites to win the 2004-05 MEAC crown. The Lady Hornets’ Mandy Clark earned pre-season Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season.

Delaware State, who received 13 of the 22 first place votes, edged out 2003-04 co-champion and tournament champion Hampton University by 10 votes for the top spot. The Lady Hornets and Lady Pirates finished tied at 14-4 in the MEAC standings last year. Delaware State earned the top seed in the MEAC Tournament by virtue of the tiebreaker.

Coppin State earned two first place votes for the third spot, followed by Florida A&M Howard to round out the top five.

Clark, the 2003-04 Player of the Year, was a unanimous selection for the 2004-05 preseason All-MEAC first team. Clark finished tied for first in scoring in the MEAC last year, averaging 15.6 points per game.

Joining Clark on the pre-season All-MEAC first team is her back court mate, Terrelle Waller (5-6, Sr. Guard), along with Katie Clark (5-8, Jr. Guard) of Bethune-Cookman, Hampton’s Sharema Dean (5-10, So. G/F), and Coppin State’s Leisel Harry (6-3, Sr. Center).
