PENSACOLA, Fla.
- The NCAA Division II Women¹s
Tennis South Regional began this morning at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson
Tennis Complex on the campus of University of West Florida.
In the first round, first seed No. 4 West Florida (22-5)
defeated fourth seed Tuskegee 5-0.
The Argonauts gained a 3-0 advantage after doubles play.
In the No. 1 match, fifth-ranked Nicole Plikat and Eva Papastratides
(14-7) downed Jill Person and Sherell Carey 8-1. Paola Arevalo
and Pilar Cortes (15-7) shut out Kamila Triche and Charlotte
Pulliam 8-0 in the No. 2 match. For the third win at the
No. 3 spot, Giuliana Oblitas and Diana Olave (23-2) defeated
Ayana Heard and Dara Eskridge 8-0.
Plikat (13-8), ranked 10th in the nation for singles, won
the No. 1 match over Person in two 6-0 sets. Cortes (20-6)
also won in two 6-0 sets over Avia Washington in the No.
4 spot to end the match.
UWF will play the winner of the second seed Central Arkansas
and third seed Lincoln Memorial match played today at 2:00
p.m. The championship is tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
