Adrian completes NSU football coaching staff

March 23, 2005

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State head football coach Pete Adrian has announced the hiring of four assistant coaches to complete his staff.

The new additions are:
Rod Holder, Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line
Holder comes to NSU after coaching the offensive line this past season at Rutgers University. Prior to that, Holder was the offensive line coach for two seasons at Western Illinois. He has also held graduate assistant jobs at Miami (Fla.) and Illinois, and offensive line coach positions at Northeastern University, Bentley College, and with the Chicago Enforcers of the XFL, where he coached alongside Adrian in the 2001 season. He was a four-year letterwinning offensive lineman at Miami (Fla.) from 1986-89, and played on national championship teams in 1987 and 1989.
Adrian on Holder: “Rod is an outstanding offensive line coach coach. He’s been at the Division I level, in the pros and at the I-AA level. We feel fortunate to have a coach of his caliber to come work with us.”

Jeff Parker, Wide Receivers
Parker, like Adrian, offensive coordinator Kirk Mastromatteo and defensive coordinator Mark DeBastiani, comes to NSU from Bethune-Cookman. Parker was wide receivers coach there for the past three seasons. A former B-CC standout receiver, Parker was a two-time All-MEAC first team selection (1990-91) and also a first-team All-American choice as a senior in 1991. Parker also has coaching experience on the high school level, having served as offensive coordinator at Daytona Beach Seabreeze High School from 1993-2000.
Adrian on Parker: “Jeff did a great job as receivers coach at B-CC. He brings pro experience as a player, and is a good communicator and technician.”

Marco Butler, Defensive Backs
Butler has spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at Fayetteville State University. He worked with safeties for FSU, and was also video coordinator and handled the team’s academics. He was a four-year player for Western Carolina University (1995-99), where he played receiver and defensive back for the Catamounts.
Adrian on Butler: “Marco is a young coach, but he is a good communicator who brings a lot to table. He also has background in what we play.”

John Scott, Defensive Line
Scott was a defensive graduate assistant the last two seasons at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. There, he worked mainly with the defensive line. Scott was a four-year letterwinner at defensive end from 1995-98 at Western Carolina, and was a second-team All-Southern Conference selection as a senior. He had professional playing stints with the Greensboro Prowlers of the af2 (2001-02) and with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (2003).
Adrian on Scott: “John has coached at the Division I level, and he is another young guy who is enthusiastic. He will be a strong asset for us.”
