Bobby Collins to lead Black College All-Star Team

Hampton, Va. – Hampton University men’s basketball
coach Bobby Collins has been selected to coach the Historically
Black College All-Stars in the 2nd Annual Black College All-Star
Game that will be held on Saturday, April 16 at the Gund Arena
in Cleveland, Ohio. He will lead a squad that features Hampton’s
Devin Green and Norfolk State’s Chakowby Hicks. The game
will showcase the top 12 players in the country from Historically
Black Colleges and Universities (the Black College All-Stars),
competing against the top 12 players from colleges throughout
Ohio (the Ohio College All-Stars).
Collins, the 2005 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Coach
of the Year, guided the Pirates to a 17-13 mark this season
and an appearance in the MEAC Tournament championship game
where Hampton fell in the final seconds to Delaware State.
In his three years at the helm of the Hampton University men’s
basketball program he has amassed a career record of 49-41,
while leading the Pirates to the MEAC Tournament championship
game in two out of three seasons.
A 1991 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, Collins finished
as a four-year letterman for the Colonels. While wearing the
EKU uniform, Collins was a member of the Ohio Valley Conference
(OVC) All-Freshmen Team and Honorable Mention All-OVC as a
senior.
