Carolinas Sports Entertainment Television (C-SET), the 24-hour regional sports and entertainment network created to serve local programming interests in North and South Carolina, will cease operations effective June 30, 2005.
C-SET launched on October 16, 2004 on Time Warner Cable systems throughout North and South Carolina. The network was available to digital cable subscribers and served as the home to 60 Charlotte Bobcats (NBA) games during the 2004-05 season. C-SET also featured Charlotte Sting (WNBA) game telecasts, original programming, Carolinas-based college football, basketball and baseball game telecasts and coaches shows and minor league baseball. Part of their lineup included MEAC and CIAA contests.
“C-SET was intended to provide sports fans in the Carolinas with regional programming that they could not find anywhere else,” said Ed Tapscott, President of the Charlotte Bobcats Organization. “We are all proud of the great job the C-SET staff did in launching this network and providing compelling content for viewers in North and South Carolina.
“We are now focused on ensuring that future Bobcats and Sting games are telecast on basic cable to reach as many fans as possible.”
The Bobcats will now pursue basic cable options for game telecasts on Time Warner Cable and other systems and will continue to air a minimum of 15 games on WJZY-TV UPN46 in Charlotte.
The Charlotte Bobcats Organization includes the Charlotte Bobcats (NBA), the Charlotte Sting (WNBA), and the New Charlotte Arena, home of the CIAA Basketball Tournament from 2006-2008, opening in the fall of 2005.
