Ramsey was one of four candidates for the position and had been serving as interim AD since the departure of J.R.E. Lee in February. His title was Special Assistant to the President for Athletics.
"I'm appreciative of the president giving me the opportunity to finish what I've started," Ramsey told the Tallahassee
Democrat. "We're making changes and we're excited about the future of the athletic department."
Ramsey, who is also a professor of sports management at FAMU, is slated to officially assume the position Aug.8. He has been at FAMU since 1997 serving as a faculty member in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. He has also been the coordinator of the department's graduate program.
"I believe Dr. Ramsey will bring leadership because of his familiarity with FAMU," head
football coach Billy Joe told the Capital
Outlook. "He has been involved in the athletic program and knows the personnel well, enabling him to have the ability to make decisions."
