Spears signs five year contract

GRAMBLING, La. – Grambling State head football
coach Melvin Spears has signed a five-year contract with the
university. After serving as interim head coach for the 2004
season, he was officially named to the position on January
20th. His team finished the 2004 season with a
6-5 overall record along with a 3-4 mark in Southwestern Athletic
Conference’s
Western Division. Prior to this appointment, Spears was the Tigers’ assistant
head coach and offensive coordinator for six seasons.

Spears was very pleased with his recent appointment, he gave
praise to both Grambling State president Dr. Horace A. Judson
and athletics director Willie Jeffries.
“I would like
to take my hat off to Dr. Horace A. Judson and Willie Jeffries
for us all being on the same page. We are excited about the
new deal and we can now go forward in preparing our football
team for the upcoming season,” Spears said.
