However, Dr. Ramsey will remain in the post until a successor
is named, and then assist with the transition process.
Dr. Ramsey said of his decision: “A year ago, I inherited
a number of issues and problems that needed to be addressed
before we could move forward. Although considerable progress
has been made, it is unfortunate that much more is needed before
this ship (Athletics) can sail smoothly.”
Ramsey, a tenured professor at the university, was named the
Special Assistant to the President for Athletics in February
2004. He was named the Director of Athletics on July 22, 2004.
Dr. Castell Vaughn Bryant, Interim President at Florida A&M
stated that: “I would like to thank Dr. Ramsey for his
dedicated service to the university in the realm of intercollegiate
athletics.
“The institution will not lose him, however, as he will
return to the classroom, where all of our students can benefit
from his vast skills and expertise.”
Ramsey is expected to resume his research and teaching position
in FAMU’s Sport Management program during the summer
term.
