February 23, 2005
Kevin Faulkner has been appointed as Head Football Coach at
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania.
Faulkner coached with some of the greatest names in today’s
game. While he was at the University of New Mexico the head
coach there was Dennis Franchione. While he was at Mizzou and
at UTEP, he served under Bob Stull. During that same period
Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid was also an assistant
for Stull. While Faulkner interned with the Packers he was
befriended by quarterback coach Steve Mariucci.
Faulkner brings over 25 years of experience to the Wolves.
Last season, Faulkner served as the Offensive Coordinator for
the Amarillo Dusters of the Arena Football League 2. While
there he was credited for tutoring league MVP and Offensive
Player of the Year, Julian Reece.
“In Kevin we found an individual who, I believe, can
turn the program around,” stated Director of Athletics,
Patric Simon. “He has a solid knowledge of the game and
will get Cheyney back on the winning track.”
“It’s been a dream of mine to be a head coach.
Given the necessary resources, I know we can be successful
at Cheyney. This area, and Pennsylvania in particular, has
a tremendous football history. I believe we can tap into those
resources to recruit and retain football players,” stated
Faulkner.
Faulkner has coached 14 players who played professionally,
seven of which were drafted.
He was a standout student-athlete. He earned All-Rocky
Mountain Conference honors while earning a B.A. in Sociology
and Physical Education and a M.A. in Secondary Education at
New Mexico Highlands University.
Faulkner has also participated in the NFL Minority Internship
Program, serving summer internships with the Minnesota Vikings
(1992 & 1993) and the Green Bay Packers (1994).
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, he is married
to the former Bernice Baldonado and has three children and
two grandchildren.
