Lady Rattlers picked to Four-Peat
as MEAC Volleyball Champions

GREENSBORO, N.C. Defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference volleyball
champions Florida A&M are the pre-season favorites to win the 2004 MEAC
title as voted by the league’s Head Coaches and Sports Information
Directors.
Florida A&M, who received all but one first place votes, led all teams with
355 total points. The Lady Rattlers, currently ranked 39th in the AVCA poll
seek to win their fourth consecutive MEAC title and extend their conference
win streak of 66 consecutive regular-season wins.
Florida A&M returns four starters from the 2003 All-MEAC first team
including junior outside hitter Adriana Kostadinova. Kostadinova was the
Most Outstanding Player in the MEAC Championship last season. FAMU will open
their season against St. Johns on September 3 in the Michigan State
Volleyball Tournament in East Lansing, MI.
Maryland-Eastern Shore finished second behind FAMU in the poll with 311
total points. UMES had their best volleyball season in 2003 with an overall
record of 26-12 and a conference record of 9-1. The Lady Hawks were
runner-ups to FAMU in the conference finals.
Rounding out the top five are Morgan State (275), North Carolina A&T (269)
and Howard (181). North Carolina A&T received the other first place vote.
The 2004 volleyball season begins September 1 with seven games. The MEAC
season ends with the conference championship November 18-20 in Greensboro,
N.C.
