Issues Warning to Bethune-Cookman and N.C. A&T
November 7, 2003
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Commissioner
Dennis Thomas issued an official letter of reprimand to Bethune-Cookman
College and North Carolina A&T State University regarding
the post-game altercation after their game Saturday, November
1, 2003 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
“It is unfortunate that the game between two nationally
ranked teams fighting for a conference championship, is being
overshadowed by the events taken place after the game,” said
Commissioner Thomas.”
Both institutions were warned that any further incident of
this nature would result in disciplinary actions including
possible suspension of coaches, student-athletes and support
staff, and financial fines.
“The actions of a few people have taken away from a
hard fought game by both teams that went down to the wire and
should have received much more publicity about their outstanding
play during the game. “Hopefully both teams have learned
that you must maintain control over your emotions in victory
and in defeat,” Commissioner Thomas added.
No other suspensions and/or fines have been issued at this
time.
