Albany State Lady Rams to compete in volleyball regionals

The Albany State University Lady Rams, who captured their
third consecutive Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SIAC) volleyball title last week, will make their third appearance
in the NCAA South Central Regional Volleyball Tournament on
Nov. 20-22. The tournament is hosted by Truman University at
Pershing Arena in Kirksville, Mo.
Ranked number six in the region, the Lady Rams, who enter
the tournament with a 28-8 overall record, will face the third
ranked Central Missouri State University (24-10) in the quarterfinals
on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 5 p.m. (Central Standard Time). Harding,
ranked fifth in the region with a 30-8 record, will face the
fourth ranked University of North Alabama (27-7).
Number two Pittsburg State University (26-7) will play the
winner of the Albany State/Central Missouri game in the semifinals
on Friday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m., while number one Truman State
University (31-4) will play the winner of the Harding/North
Alabama game at 7:30 p.m. Winners of the semifinals will advance
to the regional championship game on Saturday, Nov. 22, at
7 p.m. The regional tournament winner will advance to the national
championship tournament, which will be held Dec. 4-6 at a site
to be determined later.
The Lady Rams advanced to the regional tournament by defeating
the Kentucky State University Thorobrettes, 3-0, and claiming
the SIAC championship title. Head coach Robert Skinner said
the
"Our team is ready for the competition and we are excited
about competing at this level. We have worked very hard and
played very hard this year," Skinner said. "It is
an honor to not only represent Albany State, but the SIAC as
well in the tournament."
