The 2004 Savannah State University football schedule return two long-time rivals
that have been absent from the schedule for decades.
Savannah State University opens the 2004 season on the road September 4, 2004
against Bethune-Cookman College at 7:00 P.M. in Jacksonville, Florida’s
All-Tel Stadium for the 51st Gateway Classic. The second game of the season
is September 11 against Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia at 7:00
P.M. in Dick Price Stadium.
The Tigers celebrate the 11th annual Joseph Turner Classic on September 18,
2004 in SSU’s Theodore A. Wright Stadium at 3:00 P.M. The Tigers return
to the road on September 25th when they travel to Washington, D.C. to meet
the Bison of Howard University in Greene Stadium at 1:00 P.M.
After an open week, the Tigers return to action October 9th on the road to
Macon, Georgia. They do battle against the Golden Rams of Albany State University
in the 7th Music City Classic at 4:00 in Henderson Stadium.
Augusta, Georgia on October 16th is the next stop on the agenda. The SSU Tigers
meet the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University in Butler Stadium for the 12th
annual Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) Classic at 2:00 P.M.
The Rattlers of Florida A&M University return to the Tiger schedule after
46-year absence. The Rattlers will host the Tigers for their 2004 homecoming
game on October 23rd at 3:00 in Bragg Memorial Stadium.
Savannah State returns home for a week to celebrate her own homecoming on
October 30th. The Tigers play host to the Allen University Stinging Yellow
Jackets who have not faced the Tigers on the gridiron since 1968. Kickoff is
scheduled for 1:30 in Ted Wright Stadium.
The Tigers take to the road again on November 6th when they travel to Conway,
South Carolina to face the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in CC Soccer Stadium
at 1:30 P.M.
The final two games of the season are at home in the friendly confines of
Theodore A. Wright Stadium. On November 13th, the SSU Tigers host the Tigers
of Grambling State University at 1:30 p.m. and on November 20th, the Tigers
host the Hampton University Pirates at 1:30 P.M. This marks the first time
that either Grambling State or Hampton has visited Savannah State.
