Sumter, SC-- Claflin University’s Amanda Mack was named NAIA All-American
in three events at the NAIA National Track & Field Championships held May
27-29, 2004 in Louisville, KY. Mack, a freshmen sprinter from Hartsville, SC,
finished 4 th in the 100 meters (11.80), 5 th in the 200 meters (24.165), and
4 th in the 400 meters relay (47.14) in which she ran the anchor leg for the
Pantherettes’ relay team that featured freshmen Falicia Walters and Lavita
Lewis and sophomore Harriett Green.
Mack’s teammate, Falicia Walters, was named a double All-American.
Walters was the runner-up in the long jump (19’2.75”). Walters
led all jumpers in the preliminary and final rounds until Kelley Park from
Windsor edged pass her on her final jump.
In addition to Mack and Walters receiving All-American honors, the EIAC had
three other women who were named NAIA All-American – Harriet Green and
Lavita Lewis from Claflin Univerisity on the 400 meters relay team who finished
fourth and Erika Whiteside from Morris College who finished 5 th in the women’s
triple jump.
The Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) was represented by
33 student-athletes (16 men and 17 women) who qualified for the NAIA National
Track & Field Championships. Other outstanding performance were produced
by Derrick Harpe from Claflin University who finished 8 th in the men’s
high jump; Joshua Williams from Voorhees College who finished 7 th in the 200
meters; and Ralaska Hoover from Morris College who finished 7 th in the women’s
long jump. Hoover missed receiving All-American honors by one-half inch.
Claflin University’s Women finished 13th overall out of the 51 teams
that scored at the championships. Morris College finished thirty-six.
